An important commercial section of late Victorian Perkasie Borough extended one block in each direction from the corner of Seventh and Market Streets. The block was anchored by the American House, a hotel and restaurant, and the J. G. Moyer building, which also was a cigar factory. Across from the American House was the mansion of town founder Joseph Hendricks. Architect Milton Bean designed the hotel and the mansion.
